lunar crowned Aramco STEM Racing World Champions 2025

Australia has claimed the prestigious Aramco STEM Racing World Champions 2025 title, as Lunar, a talented group of 17-year-old students from Brighton Grammar School, Melbourne, were crowned champions at a glittering awards ceremony in Singapore.

The team edged out 82 other teams from 34 countries to lift the coveted World Champions trophy. Blue Wolves from Germany took second place, with Unity Racing representing UK completing the podium in third.

Winning the title is no easy feat. Over the course of four days, teams competed under the scrutiny of an 80-strong panel of expert judges from the worlds of STEM, motorsport, marketing, education and industry. Judging criteria spanned across engineering, design, project management, enterprise, teamwork, verbal presentations and racing performance. Lunar earned the highest total score across all categories to be crowned world champions.

The team comprises team members: Leo, Team Manager, Liam, Engineering Director, Max, CAM Engineer, Max, Enterprise Director and Oliver, CAD Engineer. Leo said after the award celebrations: “It’s incredible. We’ve put in so many late nights and hard work, so to put it all together and encapsulate it in this one trophy, it’s amazing. Our connectiveness as a team has been instrumental in this success. We came third last year, and we were so determined to go two better, so to achieve that is just awesome.

“We took on the challenge of STEM Racing to learn skills that you don’t learn in the classroom: hands-on building cars, project management, fund raising and so much more. Essentially, it’s like running a miniature business and getting this experience at such a young age, there’s nothing like this. It's put a new perspective on STEM as well, so we’re all looking at related careers.”

The winning team also secured additional accolades, taking home category awards for Best Engineered Car supported by Atlassian Willams Racing and Fastest Car Award supported by Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. In addition, Lunar was nominated for the FIA Scrutineering Award, Mclaren Formula 1 team Research & Development Award, Autodesk Design and Make Award and recorded second fastest ‘lap’ with a time of 1.082 seconds, a testament to their all-round excellence.

Hosted at Resorts World Sentosa, the Awards Celebration evening was attended by more than 1000 guests, including teams, teachers, dignitaries, and Formula 1 paddock figures. The ceremony marked the culmination of four intense days of competition, with the brightest young STEM minds vying for global recognition.

The Aramco STEM Racing World Finals 2025 was proudly supported by title sponsor, Aramco, and key partners including Denford, Autodesk, Ansys, Amaron, Maaden, DHL, Singapore Grand Prix, Project Management Institute Educational Foundation, Mitutoyo, UCL Mechanical Engineering, Singapore Tourism Board and the FIA.
