Logan in action with Velox at the STEM Racing UK National Finals
Current role: Manufacturing Apprentice

Getting Started
“I got involved in STEM Racing through the school I attended; I was one of the first people to start it, forming one of two teams that are continuing to race to this day. What appealed about the challenge was being able to make and compete with others, and that the technical regulations allowed for vastly different approaches in terms of the design.”
From Classroom to Competition
“In my first season, we competed as Three Crowns Racing and I took on the role of Team Leader and Manufacturing Engineer, which introduced me to CNC machining - which is now a core part of my role at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains - and it also helped me develop my skills in CAM and CAD, which I continue to use regularly. That year, we placed 3rd at Regionals with the fastest car.
In 2024, I continued leading Three Crowns Racing and also took on the design of the car, again achieving 3rd place at our Regional event with the fastest car.
In 2025, I joined our school’s other team, Velox, as Team Leader. I led the design of a new car in response to updated regulations, resulting in a 2nd place finish at Regionals and a qualification for Nationals. While we didn’t perform as well as hoped at Nationals, we were nominated for the Research & Development Award across all classes, reflecting the effort I put into our Design & Engineering portfolio.”

Expanding my career horizons
“Participating in STEM Racing definitely inspired me to pursue a career in motorsport. I loved the fast-paced working environment, and it also helped me develop my engineering skills, which ultimately contributed to securing my role at Mercedes HPP.”

“Don’t be discouraged if things don’t go perfectly or you don’t reach Nationals first time. Every competition teaches you something valuable, and hard work always pays off in the long run. Focus on learning, improving your engineering skills, and building a strong portfolio, because the experience you gain can open doors to opportunities beyond the competition.”
