A Practical Engineering Challenge
“I chose to get involved in STEM Racing with a few friends at school because we were a group of keen and enthusiastic aspiring engineers who wanted to do something beyond our normal studies. What appealed to us was the opportunity to take on a practical engineering challenge, work as a team and see what we could achieve with limited time and resources. It was a chance to step outside the classroom and put our skills into practice while learning something completely new.”
Developing our Skills
“Autonomy was probably the biggest skill we developed. We started from scratch and had to teach ourselves almost everything, from the technical aspects of the competition to managing our time, responsibilities and development as a team. It taught us to take ownership of our work, solve problems independently and adapt quickly when things didn't go to plan.”

Regionals to Nationals in Four months
“Our STEM Racing journey took us from starting the competition with no prior experience to becoming UK National Finalists in just four months. Along the way, we won three awards - two at the regional level and one at the National Finals. It was a steep learning curve, but the experience showed us how much we could achieve through teamwork, initiative and making the most of the opportunities available to us.”
“STEM Racing gave me valuable opportunities to meet people already working within engineering and motorsport. Although our team did not win the overall competition, we made a conscious effort to speak with industry professionals, learn from their experiences and build connections. It gave me an early appreciation of the importance of networking and engaging with people already working in the industry.”
