how does it work?

Creating their own version of an F1 team, students work together in groups of 3-6. Assigning roles and responsibilities, each individual takes ownership of a specific area, such as designing the car, manufacturing it, testing it or branding it. They then work together to create various project elements, such as a Design & Engineering portfolio, and delivery of a verbal presentation.

the classes

Developed to be accessible to all students, and to encourage and progress learning, the STEM Racing competition is segmented into different categories which are tailored to age and experience. These are Primary Class, Entry Class, Development Class, and Professional Class.
Each class is built around the fundamentals of the competition - design, analyse, make, test, race, and project management - with added layers of complexity and additional requirements introduced as teams progress through the programme.

the events

Once a team has developed their project work, they are able to compete in STEM Racing events, where they race against other teams, as well as presenting to a team of judges, comprised of industry professionals (and sometimes members of F1 teams!).
These events begin at regional level, progress to national, and, for the very best, culminate in competing against other countries in the Aramco STEM Racing World Finals.

the time

STEM Racing can be approached in a way that works for you. Whether it is a regular extracurricular activity or a project that complements an existing class, you can create a timeline that fits your needs.
We recommend a minimum of an hour a week across the first and second half terms to ensure teams have enough time to complete each part of the
project and build their car prior to a regional final.
