ANSYS
global cfd simulation partner
Ansys is the global leader in engineering simulation software enabling innovation across industries and physics areas for more than 50 years. Now, they are powering the next generation of engineers and pioneers through STEM RACING.
As the official global computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation partner of the competition, Ansys is providing free access to software, learning resources and support to all STEM RACING participants. Ansys simulation tools will ensure students have unparalleled insight into how their car will perform on the racetrack, before it gets there. Enabling teams to determine the feasibility of ideas, analyse the aerodynamics of their design, and, ultimately, increase their car's performance, Ansys software is an invaluable tool for all competing in STEM RACING. Additionally, using simulation software is an excellent education and career-building skillset that will support students’ future success.

CFD Simulation Benefits
Ansys CFD simulation software allows STEM Racing teams to optimize the aerodynamic design of their cars. By simulating airflow around the car’s body, wings, and other components, teams can fine-tune their designs for minimal drag and maximum downforce, which is crucial for achieving high speeds and stability. Additionally, it enables teams to test and refine their designs in a virtual environment, reducing the need for physical prototypes and wind tunnel testing which can significantly lower costs all while introducing hands-on experience and concepts that will apply in various engineering disciplines.

Ansys Simulation Software IncludedAll students competing in STEM Racing receive free access to Ansys simulation software. Ansys Student which is a free student download available directly from their website is a Workbench-based bundle including Ansys Mechanical, Ansys CFD, Ansys Discovery, Ansys SPEOS, Ansys Autodyn, Ansys DesignXplorer, and Ansys SpaceClaim, so you have everything you need to design and develop a car that is sure to break those race records. The free student download does have problem size limits so if your team hits those you can license their full commercial software by completing the form for student team partnership.

Training Tools Available
Ansys provides content developed specifically for students competing in the STEM Racing competition as well as a comprehensive range of resources to get up and running. Resources include a number of video tutorials explaining everything from what CFD is through to how to create 3D CAD models which can be analysed with CFD tools and how to compare different designs and assess the effectiveness of the changes and innovations made.

“At a certain point during the design process, we realized we needed very accurate simulation to compete effectively, so we contacted Ansys. Ansys’ meshing capabilities provided us with positive results overall for our design and allowed us to gain great professional simulation experience. Simulation was our final optimization step and involved running many CFD iterations to secure a perfect result — which was designing the best cars we’ve ever made.”
